Highway shot on the NJ Turnpike on the way to Cartaret

20150325_092135

It’s amazing how beautiful the highway can be when you depict it at the right the time at the right moment and in the right place.  This painting was especially rewarding to do because of the beautiful tones and colors in the shadow areas which made the graphic shapes very interesting.
Initially, I worked by laying in the colors with a sponge to spread the color almost like a water color wash, so that I would get a sense of the minor areas in order to build on top of that.  In the past I used my fingers to blend the pastels but that proved to be a very painful experience as the paper I use is a sand paper.  So, I was sanding my fingertips!  I have since smartened up.  (I still use my fingertips, but only for the small details – but the larger areas I used the sponge.)  I’m now looking into other means of blending.
I am now deciding on my next paintings.  It could be oil refineries or a portrait of an old Marine and a rally in NYC.  Tune in next next time~!
Here are the stages of the preparation of the painting also…

Highway shot on the NJ Turnpike on the way to Cartaret

20150320_071128

I’m in the final stages of the a painting.  This is where “the rubber meets the road”  and the paint meets the paper.

In this stage, the intricate details come into play and will either make or break the painting.

The reflections of the cars are like jewels and offset the massive overpass, creating a delicate balance.

Laying down the basic tones and shapes…  It was dusk, raining and moody.

Next phase coming soon….

Recommendation from one satisfied client

Since getting into the business Jeff has been my go to guy for all of my photography needs. I’ve had Jeff shoot everything from 3 bedroom cape cods to large million dollar + custom homes and everything in between. Jeff doesn’t just take pictures and hand them to you, he take the time to edit them where needed to adjust the lighting through photo shop to be assured you have the perfect shot. Jeff even managed to make me look like a million bucks in my business card photo!

The #1 reason I use Jeff is because he’s also a licensed realtor and knows exactly the type of photos potential buyers would like to see, and that is huge. He even goes out of his way to do some minor staging of rooms before taking a shot.

In my years of using Jeff as my photographer he’s never missed or been late to a photo shoot and my clients have always been thrilled with his work. If you want to take a chance, play the lottery. If you want great photos, choose Jeff Wolfson.

Tranquil Pasture

Jeff's Landscape for photoshop

“Tranquil Pasture” intrigued me because of its simplicity and serenity especially now that we are in the throws of a harsh winter.  I wouldn’t mind being out there now!

This particular painting was done on a board with several overlays of color to get the foreground grass to have depth.  It was all about the quality of the foreground grass areas, and especially how the sunlight hit the tree and grassy field in order to convey a sense of light and airy space to produced a Tranquil Pasture.

It was very exciting to capture the energy of Times Square with the graphic intensity of the advertisements impacting on the people. It was especially interesting to me growing up in New York and always being part of the Times Square experience and how it has changed through the years.

Photos from the award ceremony sat. night in which I received one of the top honors, the Award of Excellence at the 9th juried show of the Pastel Society of NJ.
There were so many good works, that the judge extended the list of award recipients to recognize the efforts of the artists.  We should be encouraged by the love of the art as over 65 entries are in the show and it will be open to the public through the end of the month at Cranes Mill, 459 Passaic Ave., W. Caldwell – 9 to 5 p.m.

Raymond's on Church St.
Raymond’s on Church Street was especially wonderful to paint since it brought back
memories of visiting Paris with Valerie over 20 years ago.  The late afternoon sunlight
coming through the trees and casting those beautiful shadows was very captivating
and inspirational.  I am grateful for the acknowledgement of the piece by my fellow
artists at the NJ Pastel Society.
